... And Never Waking Up
System House Rules
Archery
This ability is usable in the same ways as Firearms, but for bow and arrow instead of gun and bullet.
Drive
Tailing anyone in any sort of vehicle is impossible without this ability. Furthermore, attempting to attack someone with a car under almost all circumstances will not succeed without Drive (people are naturally more agile by far than cars and if given any warning will be able to avoid most drivers). If a car is used to attack a person using this ability it requires a mental vs. physical test (as in firearms) and does 3 levels of normal damage per strike. However, due to the clumsy nature of automobiles they may only attack once every 2 turns (all cars also have the negative trait clumsy).
Etiquette
This ability does not allow you to erase social mistakes, but it does allow you to go to the ST for advice about a social situation before it happens. If you do make a social gaff, then you will be allowed to use the Etiquette to have time to think of a suitable response to cover up your mistake.
Hobby/Professional/Expert
Any abilities not listed in the book will likely fall under this heading. Please check with the ST before using it.
Linguistics
Each level of Linguistics shall give you additional languages equal to the level. For example, level 3 linguistics would give you three additional languages, bringing your total languages up to 6. You can speak or write the Languages you have. Learning each language will take some time, minimum 1 month
- 1 dot - 1 Language (plus your Native one)
- 2 dots - 2 Languages (3 Languages, plus your Native one)
- 3 dots - 3 Languages (6 Languages, plus your Native one)
- 4 dots - 4 Languages (10 Languages, plus your Native one)
- 5 dots - 5 Languages (15 Languages, plus your Native one)
Lore
The following types of Lore are available subject to ST approval: Faerie, Kith, House, Arts, Kindred, Garou, Hunter/Autumn People, Mage and Wraith.
When the challenge is started both parties must bid a trait that fits the situation, if either side does not bid a trait they lose on ties.
Retesting: You now only get one retest from each source: Abilities, Merits, Birthright/Boon, Cantrip, Overbid and Willpower are the areas from which you can call for a retest.
Abilities: Abilities are burned when you block a challenge, force a retest or bid with ability traits to get a retest.
- If you win a challenge and the defender uses an appropriate ability, merit or other source they may force a retest. If you in turn can counter with the corresponding use of ability, merit or other source yourself, then you would in effect force the defender to accept the original result of the challenge.
- Abilities may only be used one at a time to call for a retest. So if you have three Brawl Ability Traits and wish to bid for a retest, you may only bid one, leaving you with two.
Willpower may be used to:
- Replenish all traits lost in a session in any one category: Physical, Social or Mental.
- Ignore the effects of one Social or Mental challenge; this includes Arts or the supernatural abilities of Prodigals requiring such challenges. This usage must be declared before the result of the challenge is determined.
- Allow a player to ignore wound penalties for the duration of one challenge.
- Retain self-control or courage in the face of overwhelming temptation, rage or fear. This lasts until the source of the emotion is gone or ten minutes have passed, whichever comes first.
- Succeed automatically at a Simple or Static challenge. However only one willpower may be used in any particular action. Hence, you cannot attempt to stake a vampire by simply succeeding in the initial physical to physical challenge and then blowing two willpower. You would only be able to blow one and would still need to do at least one of the two simple challenges.
- Attempt a challenge a player would normally be unable to attempt because they lack an appropriate trait.
Willpower is regained at the rate of one every two weeks. Storytellers may also wish to restore willpower if characters perform actions that hold particularly true to their Legacy. If you want a ruling, speak to an ST.
To purchase willpower a character must have recently experienced a time in which willpower was expended to overcome an extreme occurrence.
There is a proper sequence to be followed in combat, which makes for combat that is as realistic and fair as possible. This sequence should be followed for all combat. Wound modifiers are in effect instantly upon receiving.
- Spend Glamour/Determine Art Use
- Social/Mental Challenges
- Normal Physical Action (perform bunks)
- Art effects
Experience points (XP) will be awarded for each criteria as follows:
- Turning up for a game
- Playing in costume
- Exceptional play
- Detailed character backgrounds
- Exceptional leadership
- Player of the game
Things other than XP may be awarded on occasion. Such as a free willpower for faultless and continuous play of one's Legacy with due consideration for Oaths and other players and their characters. Or Title background for proving a characters value to the courts of the Fae and earning a Knighthood. Other background, temper and ability traits may be awarded as seen fit by the ST's.
New trait purchases will be by the book (Shining Host page 117)
All Arts are available to be learned by any Changeling with the following exceptions:
- Sidhe do not learn Chicanery because it is a vulgar and common Art
- Commoners do not generally have the connections to learn Soverign, nor do the Sidhe take kindly to finding commoners that have learned it.
- Any other restrictions on Arts in the Character creation rules hold.
- Any other Bans or Frailties of Houses or Kiths may restrict the learning of certain Arts.
If in the event that your hard work and effort does go up in a puff of smoke, I will happily let you spend any unspent XP on the creation of your next character up to a maximum of 30 XP. There is also a chance, given exceptional role-playing and good sportsmanship, that a few bonus XP will fly your way as well.
XP carryover will only be permitted from one character to the next. Unless you are playing NPC's with ST approval.
